I’m sometimes asked for where to go for more information on defining and measuring social impact, so I’ve collected some links below to a few of the best I’ve seen online. Plus a couple of my own resources at the end!
Every organisation and situation (and impact!) is different though, so my advice is always to do what’s right for your organisation – use what’s useful for you and don’t feel compelled to fit every template or tick every box.
Hopefully the resources are useful, but get in touch if you need tailored advice on how to make it all work for you.
Resources
- Good Finance, has some great advice about Measuring social impact for charities and social enterprises, including a very useful Outcomes Matrix tool. Also some great articles on all sort of areas of social investment including this one, featuring advice from myself and my colleagues at the School for Social Entrepreneurs!
- The Social Impact Navigator is also a great resource – a pretty comprehensive step by step to defining and measuring your social impact including useful tools and templates throughout.
- Inspiring Impact has plenty of advice around various aspects of impact practice, including this on measurement.
- The Impact Builder from Bond is a ‘directory’ of suggested outcomes and indicators, most useful for organisations working in the international development sector.
- NCVO has an extensive Knowledge Bank including many resources on impact and monitoring.
- And here are some slides from a workshop I did for members of Impact Hub Athens, plus a simple logic model template.
